WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Please be on alert for these common scams!
If you receive any phone call or text message telling you that your credit or debit card has been deactivated, or that there is a problem with your account, please hang up or delete the text immediately. THIS IS A SCAM
If you receive an email that appears to be from Guadalupe Credit Union claiming that your account or internet banking is “locked,” please delete it immediately. THIS IS A SCAM
Clicking on links in a fraudulent email will take you to a phony website that could look identical to the GCU website. If you attempt to log in to Home Banking from the phony site, it will ask you to enter your debit card number and PIN, which can then be stolen and used by the fraudsters. Your Home Banking login information could also be recorded.
THREE KEY TIPS TO HELP PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FRAUD:
1. We will never contact you for your account number, card number, PIN or internet login password. We already have this on file. If you receive a phone call, email or text message asking for account information, even if it looks legitimate, it is a scam. DO NOT RESPOND.
2. Never click on the link in the email or call the number given in the message. Instead, use a source you trust like a statement or telephone book to look up the number or web address and contact us directly to find out if the message is legitimate.
3. If you believe you have been the victim of any scam, please contact us immediately.
IDENTITY THEFT
If you suspect you may be the victim of identity theft, immediately report the situation to the fraud department of the three credit reporting companies -- Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. When you notify one bureau that you are at risk of being a victim of identity theft, it will notify the other two for you. Placing the fraud alert means that your file will be flagged and that creditors are required to call you before extending credit. Consider using a cell phone number if you have one.
